[comp.sys.ibm.pc] VGA Cards vs. Expanded Memory Managers

mch@ukc.ac.uk (Martin Howe) (05/26/89)

There seem to have been a rash of postings (not all of which from
root@unix.SRI.COM !) about VGA cards clashing with expanded memory managers.

A fuller description of all this occurs in the "From The Top" column
in the June 1989 edition of Personal Computer World.

Briefly, the VGA driver defaults to using the same area of memory as the ex.mem
driver; often the VGA driver allocates the memory (between 640K and 1M)
first and locks out or interferes with the ex.mem driver. The solution
PCW's editor used was to relocate the video BIOS in RAM elsewhere.

Hope this helps,
