I'm having some difficulty with SMARTDRV.SYS. According to the MSDOS manual the default is 256K, but I want a smaller cache of 64K. The manual gives as its example "device=smartdrv.sys 1024/a" if you want 1Meg and the "/a" is for expanded memory. If I type in "device=smartdrv.sys 64/a" or "device=smartdrv.sys 64" for 64K, I get "invalid parameters" when I boot. The default works fine (device=smartdrv.sys)...so does anyone know the problem? Is the manual, the driver, or the usual...me! Oh ya, I'm using MSDOS 4.01. Also.... I read the postings regarding soldering through the 'outlined tab' in 720K 3.5" disks to get 1.44M. I'm really suprised how well this works! Unlike 360K 5.25", which if formatted at 1.2M many bad errors are encountered, I've yet to encounter any errors at 1.44M. It almost makes me think there's a scam between the micro-diskette and drive manufacturers...anyway the drive is still under warranty, so I don't really want to modify the sensor. I'm guessing the 720K/1.44M sensing comes out of the 34pin edge connector and read by DOS. Does anyone know which pin? All responses appreciated. ...Gord (gord@geac)
