[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Recursive directory lister for PC wanted

worley@compass.com (Dale Worley) (05/31/89)

Is there a program out there which will give a hard copy listing of
everything on an MS-DOS disk? (like ls -r in Unix) Somebody *must*
have one of these!

Please mail replies to worley@compass.com or compass!worley@think.com,
as I can't read this group directly.

There is a program called SWEEP which allows you to execute any other
command in every directory. It was originally in PC MAG. THey also
distributed it in their utility disk that they gave away with subscriptions.
It is copyrighted, but, I believe it can be freely distributed as long
as no profit is involved. You may be able to find it on a BBS near you.
If not email me. I will uuencode it and send it to you.

There was a good (Turbo Pascal) article exactly about this problem
in PC World, April 1989.

At the risk of being obvious:

	CHKDSK/V

This can be redirected to a printer for hardcopy if desired...

A good solution, and there are still others as well. One simple way
is using SWEEP DIR > PRN in the main directory. (Sweep is a
well-known utility for doing ms-dos commands recursively, like the
notoriously efficient defragmenter sweep del *.* :-)

There is a command called 'tree' in every version of DOS I have seen. This
might do the trick.
