I'm in need of help again. I plan to network two XT computers to a central file server (286 or 386?). At this point I have not yet purchased the file server and would also appreciate any suggestions in this area. I am from a UNIX and MAC OS environment and am not aware of the options available to MS-DOS networks. I'm given the impression that MS-DOS networks need a file server but I would be interested in other suggestions as well. This network will be very simple and will require file and device sharing only, however I don't want to limit myself unnecessarily. I'm very much open to suggestions. Probably the greatest requirement is a network which is easy to implement and maintain. I once worked for a large corporation where they spent over $100,000 (rumor) to network a floor of PCs which never worked, everyone there blamed the consultant or just didn't care. I don't want to get into a mess like this especially since I'm not involved in using PCs myself. So I would prefer a network software package which is designed for the average user and doesn't require a full time system administrator. Since I don't normally read this group I would prefer email responses, if I get enough useful responses I will summarize and post. Thanks in advance. Ron Bannon bannon@andromeda.rutgers.edu
