Thanks to all the replies I got regarding the networking of 386's or the 386's acting as servers. I am sorry I cannot reply to all individually but, my mail box disappeared somewhere. We have solved the problem of networking. Everyone is getting their own computers with their own copies of WordPerfect. The best idea someone sent me was to run UNIX and let dumb terminals operate from the serial ports but, that would save too much money or something. Thanks to all again and sorry we could not put your suggestions to reality. I still think that we should start a discussion on connectivity on a small scale (4-25 computers). OR am I in the wrong group?? Monty Baveja (msb@hal.cwru.edu)

I have similar questions, so I echo Monty's query: where is a good newsgroup to discuss workgroup computing concepts, hardware and software? Since the mainframes we work on when not on PC's are all moving toward Unix, we've been wondering about desktop computing solutions for our office of 20 staff who have some need to share files and a great (read, "financial") need to share peripherals. What works, or might work? Unix on a powerful 386 machine and a host of terminals or AT-workstations in minimal configurations? The new Zenith Z-1000 which handles multiprocessing via multiple 386 cards? Other ideas, anyone? Guess I need a pointer to the right newsgroup also. I can't seem to get much documentation on the newsgroups we subscribe to other than their names, which isn't always enough...
