I got a reply from Steve Salisbury, the lead engineer for C library development at Microsoft (or something equivalent sounding). He informs me that in an upcoming release (presumably the C 6.0 I heard of), the restriction that SS==DGROUP will be removed from the "large data model" libraries. For those of you who wrote asking "how can I get C 6.0", the answer is that it isn't available now. I heard about it in Infoworld, May 15, 1989, p. 5. According to Infoworld, features include "tiny" model support, more optimization options, better code generation... Infoworld said that it should be "at least several months" before this will be introduced. Disclaimer: I'm not speaking on behalf of TI. Most of the above info is paraphrased from Infoworld, not Steve (of Microsoft).
