I am currently toying with the idea of buying Zeniths ZCM-1490 flatscreen 14" VGA monitor. I was wondering if anyone out there in netland has bought one of these monitors and what their reactions to it are. I am especially interested in hearing from anyone who bought one of these monitors from Elek-Tek (in the Chicagoland area). Thanks. Please send replies directly to att!cuuxf!cuddo!langev and I'll post a summary. Steve Langevin (312) 810-6892

It certainly lessens the culture shock of leaving the color Sun4s I use at work :^). It is very sharp, has a large viewing area for a 14" monitor and also can be tuned very bright without excessive distortion. The only bad thing I can think of to say it is that it is not a multisyncing monitor. You cannot use it with your Mac, nor can you use it with a Super VGA or higher resolution card. Hopefully, Zenith will expand their line of monitors using this flat-screen technology. I would say that the Zenith is the best VGA monitor that you can get and is a bargain at ~$600(mail order). The Zenith monitor *will* resolve screens greater than standard vga. I tried this recently with the "fractint" program posted to the binaries group. My monitor tends to distort somewhat, if I really wanted super vga the 1490 would be unsuitable. The monitor is only advertised to go to 640 x 480, does anybody really know what it *will* do???
