In an article in net.rumor, somebody writes >If there is NOT a real net.bizarre, the only newsgroups the bizarre postings >can appear in are other newsgroups where people can object to having >them shoved down their throat. Such postings must be made if there is to >be any possibility at all of net.bizarre being created, as you have to >have demonstrated volume BEFORE the newsgroup can be created. The problem is not that the bizarre stuff is in the "wrong" group; it is that, in the eyes of the administrators of backbone sites, there is no "right" group. And there ain't never gonna be a right group, either, in their eyes. To put it another way: people who are in a position to enforce their opinions looked upon what actually went into net.bizarre, and decided that it was (1) very large in volume, and (2) very small in content. Therefore, they pulled it off the net, following the precedent which led to net.flame being removed (as a netwide group -- your site might still have it). If you like groups like net.general/followup, net.misc, and net.rumor, then PLEASE DON'T TRY FLOODING THEM, in hopes that this will lead to the re-creation of net.bizarre. It will not. Instead, the backbone sites will pull the plug on each of these groups in turn. Remember, the volume of the net is still growing faster than the budget for news is at the backbone sites (twice nothing is still nothing) -- and in the end more cuts seem inevitable. Flooding tactics hasten these cuts. -- "Oh, yeah? Well I survived CANCELLATION!
