[comp.sys.ibm.pc] kermit: DEC PDP11/23 <--> IBM AT

barkdoll@cattell.psych.upenn.edu (Ed Barkdoll) (06/26/89)

I am trying to send files from a DEC PDP11/23 (actually LSI11/23) to an
IBM AT clone via kermit. The version of kermit running on the 11 is Kermit-11
v2.30 by Brian Nelson and on the AT is that included in ProComm version 2.4.
RT11(FB) v4.0 is the operating system on the 11 with multitasking built and DOS
3.3 is on the AT. A DLV11J is the serial I/O board on the 11.

My problem is this: with kermit running in CONNECT mode on the 11/23
and Procomm in HOST mode I am able to communicate with the AT - i.e. the 11/23
acts as a remote terminal for the AT and I am able to list direcories and such.
I am NOT able to transfer files, however. The kermits are clearly talking to
one another as acknowledgement packets are sent and received but for some
reason they are not talking the same language as I get an Unsuccessful transfer
error. The problem would not appear to be baud rate or any other obvious
option as the 11 can run successfully as a remote. I have tried virtually all
the parity (and other options) combinations that I can to no avail.
Nor will kermit work with the 11/23 in SERVER mode and the AT as a
remote.

Does someone have a reasonable idea what might be the problem? How
likely is it that the two kermits are incompatible? (please no
wild guesses) Has anyone tried a similar transfer with kermit or some other
reasonable user friendly communiactions link b/w a PDP11 and an AT?
Please e-mail any suggestions.

Have you tried the command:
SET FILE TYPE BINARY

None of my transfers ever worked until I started using that...
