I don't want to clutter up this newsgroup with more useless opinions, BUT: There seems to be an implication that the missles fired at the ships in the Gulf were merely warnings. Can you defend this with more substantial evidence? Furthermore, can you suggest how the US ships are supposed to tell that they are merely warnings? If Kaddafi has a complaint about international law: IE: the twelve mile limit, shouldn't he voice his compliants and move to get this changed without military action, or threats? Kaddafi's strategy, in my opinion, is to use terrorism to cut off US relations. This is why he only attacks US citizens in foreign countries. The US had intercepted messages from the Libyan Embassy in East Berlin showing conclusive evidence that the bombing of the West Berlin Disco was ordered by Kaddafi. It seems that the West Germans contributing on this matter don't seem to want to acknowledge this fact. Now, I am not going to say that the Reagan Administration does not have problems. I am not entirely sure why we went into the Gulf in the first place. Defending a twelve mile limit has no strategic advantage to the US. Furthermore, I am not sure why Libyan reports on the Gulf incident are wrong. I would like to remind the West Germans that the US has the most accurate news reporting in the world. It was through the free press that the US was able to eliminate the Nixon threat. I dare say that the "innocent" Libyans will not find this task so easy. Corruption in government is universal. It is only when the people of a country take responsibility for their government that this condition will ever improve. I suspect that the Germans are hesitant to accept partial blame for the Hitler episode. It is only when people accurately acknowledge history that history can be prevented from repeating itself. I am sure that the West Germans do not want another Hitler much the same way the US does not want another Nixon. The Libyans have a similar problem on their hands. I am not convinced that they are capable of stopping Kaddafi. I think it's pretty evident that Kaddafi is fascist. He would rather use secretive terrorism than relate with the international community. How is the US supposed to establish relations and channels of communications when our diplomats are terrified? This is a condition that can not be allowed to continue. Granted, there are still alot of things remaining for the American people to fight for, and this struggle will continue to exist, but at least in our own country, this struggle is peaceful. We are not without our flaws, but I still believe we got the best thing going. John Williams
