A friend of mine is interested in purchasing one of the VTI AT clones that DAK is marketing, bundled with Wordstar and an assortment of other software, for $1999. I have heard that Vendex is in fact the manufacturer behind this machine. The system includes a 12MHz 80286 and 640K of 1-wait-state memory, a 40MB hard disk, EGA card and monitor, 2 serial/1 parallel I/O ports, and a Logitech Mouse. At that price there are other vendors who offer similar systems, but DAK include the software and an 18 month service contract. I can't remember who is behind the service contract (or whether they even identify the vendor). The friend who might purchase this system is not computer literate. He wants to use it to support patient recordkeeping in a small medical office, for his writing, and to maintain a database of patients and their prescriptions. He does not currently plan to use it for billing or accounting, though that may change in the future. I'd like to know whether anyone has any experience with this machine, and, in particular, whether it is reliable. And whether there are limitations as to which software will run correctly on it. Please reply directly as I don't routinely read this newsgroup. Addresses are in the signature below. Thanks in advance.
