Hello everybody, I have some strange effects with my Genius GM 6 plus mouse, perhaps somebody can help or has at least an idea. Whats going on: I have an Epson Equity III+, the P-CAD PCB-Layout-Software, and the GM 6plus mouse, running in Mouse-Systems-Mode, at the seriell interface. In the seriell line is a protection-device from P-CAD, the mouse-signals go through this. Now sometimes, when in the scematic entry package, the cursor walks by itself across the screen, mostly to the left, without the mouse being moved. To find out what the mouse does, I started some teminal-emulation, and then the mouse produces lots of strange characters on the screen. I could not find a baud-rate which delivers interpretable results. On some I get the same character for all directions, on some I get different characters when moving to one direction etc. This leads to the question: How does a seriell mouse work: - Does it generate true ASCII-characters, or does it just toggle the rs232-lines in some way, and the software has to grab this. With my mouse feeding the terminal-emulator, I get characters even when the mouse is not moved. Sometimes these chars stop when I lift the mouse a little, or when I just touch the case as well as the mousepad. This suggests some electrostatic discharge. Now the question: Has somebody similar experiences ? - Does this come from -- Electrostatics -- Inadequate Mousedriver -- the protection-device, taking away voltage from the mouse -- or what else ? Please send mail or post to this group. Others may be interested in this topic too, so posting might be better. Thanks to everybody who responds. R.
