I am looking for a text formatter (a program that interprets an ascii file with embedded commands ala Scribe or Troff and produces printer output, not a "word processor" with a built-in editor) that runs under Mess-DOS. Ideally the program should be fairly small/simple, not need a hard disk to run, and be free with source code. Does anyone know of such a program? Please mail responses and I will summarize to the net---thanks very much.

Does anyone know of The programs in /pc/ts/tsfcom21.arc and the filter in /pc/ts/tsfilt13.arc and /pc/ts/ts2flt10.arc migth be of some use here. No source codes available, though, but the filters in ts2flt10 are user configurable. Available by anonymous ftp from our site. ................................................................... You might look into proff by Ozan Yigit and Steven Tress in
1984. I tend to like it because I can format text without the hassle
of requiring the graphic capability that most desktop publisher need.
Since I tend to do all of my memos, reports and ALL of my homework
in it, it has come in very handy.
I have source for a modified version that runs on 4.3 BSD and
DOS. The DOS compiler is Metaware's High C, though it shouldn't be a
problem to convert to TC or MSC...
