IBM has been liquidating there supply of 16 Mhz Model 70's and our university has decided to buy a few of them while the prices were cheap. I've been installing them and noticed that they seem fairly sluggish. Has anyone else noticed this on the 16 Mhz Model 70's. The computers come bundled with software already on the harddrive. The software includes: MS Window 386, MS Word 4.0, and MS Excel (not sure what version). The harddrive is also partitioned as one 150 Mb unit with DOS 4.01 installed. When running Windows, the machines are extremely sluggish even with SmartDrive installed. Even though Windows is a memory hog, and in my opinion quite useless It should work faster on a model 70 than a model 50. I haven't timed the difference, but the two machines seem to be comprable in speed. I dont know why these machines are so slow, It's been suggested that the large partition on the harddrive might be the culprit. ALSO: has anyone had any problems with the screen display on MS WORD 5.0? Thanks in advance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ David Aharoni : INET: dma@beach.cis.ufl.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
