Hi net.folks, I've a buddy with a Toshiba T1200 laptop computer, and the 20MB 3.5" hard drive seems to have gone south (or so says a Toshiba tech). This tech also says that a new one is $1800, or $1100 with trade-in. This, of course, is ridiculous, and I've been tasked to look into a more reasonable repair/replacment route. The data on the hard disk was backed up, so recovery of the current drive is not that important. Has anybody any clues on this? I've heard from a not-very- reliable source that Toshiba may have done some proprietary things to their drive, and this will make our life difficult. In addition to fixing Paul's computer, I've got a brother with an officeful of people with these machines, and all of them want bigger/faster hard drives, so this info will help me there. We don't get this group, so please respond via email. I'll summarize and post if there is enough interest. Thankee mucho, Steve -- Stephen J.
