I am trying to transfer files from my DOS 4.0 system to my DOS 2.1 system. The 2.1 system can't read the floppy as formatted on the 4.0 system. Does anyone know how to make a 2.1 compatible floppy on a 4.0 system? If I format a floppy on 2.1, I can read it into 4.0 but if I try to write on the 2.1 floppy with the 4.0 system, it corrupts the floppy. -- Stuart Brown {ihnp4,allegra}!clyde!sdl!stu

Does anyone know how ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My wife regularly copies files from our DOS 4.01 at home and takes them to work on a DOS 3.? (I think it is 3.?, but it may be 2.?). She has had no problems. The only important thing is to make sure the floppies were formatted on the lower version of DOS. I'm not sure if this works with 2.1 but try formating in the 2.1 and then copy files to the disk from 4.0. The machine that formatted the floppy should be able to read them, and I have had no trouble copying files from 4.01 to disks formatted on other machines. Greg Cook gcook@horus.cem.msu.edu
