The Hercules VGA card only supports *VGA* modes (including CGA & EGA).
It doesn't support Hercules graphics, or RAMFONT. 

I think they decided to go for price over features, as most buyers are
buying Hercules clones that don't have RAMFONT. They seem to feel that
the customers wanted cheap rather than lots of features. So that is
what Hercules is supplying.

But as I note above, you can keep using your Hercules Graphics PLus card
when you install a Hercules VGA. And the docs say the same about the
Hercules Color Card and InColor card.
