I am working on a clients hard drive subsystem and am having problems getting it to work. He has a Zenith Z-148 computer with a DTC (Data Technologies Co.) controller (P/N 10-00311, Rev A) and a Miniscribe 8425 3.5" hard drive. The hard drive was just repaired (spindle motor frozen), but I can't get a low-level formatter to run (I have used Zenith's PREP utility under MS-DOS 3.2, and Ontrack's Disk Manager - both fail). Before I was retained to repair the system, another person looked at it and may have changed the switches/jumpers on the DTC controller. I need to know if the following settings are appropriate for the DTC/Miniscribe 8425 combination: Dip switch State Jumper Block 1 On 2 On - - 3 Off | | | | 4 On - | | | | 5 On |.| |.| |.| 6 On | | - - 7 On |.| . . 8 On - If these settings are not correct, please provide the correct ones. Please reply via E-mail - I will summarize and post if there is interest. Phil Buckland Computer Engineer psb@eecea.UUCP psb@eecea.eece.ksu.edu
