We're trying to install Windows/386, version 2.11, on a machine with the Genoa "Super" VGA, model 5100, version 2.10 prom. At first we couldn't get past the installation step - the machine would crash and the screen would go blank (really: green/blue with miniature horizontal lines barely visible). Then, Genoa said "there's an undocumented option in the Windows/386 setup. Use \n and it'll work." This let us get past the installation step, but then when Windows/386 tries to come up, it crashes as before. * has anyone managed to install Windows/386 with a Genoa Super VGA? How? * it seems like getting Windows/386 to work with arbitrary VGA cards on arbitrary motherboards is an interesting open problem. Are there any clues as to what sort of VGA card we should get, if we need to replace the Genoa VGA card? Or should we rather abandon the idea of Windows/386? Sorry if these subjects are old hat to readers of this newsgroup. I confess I read it seldom & so, I get so far behind, I never have the heart to catch up on all those articles. Please mail to mrm@sun.com, or post to the newsgroup if you think this is of general interest.
