[comp.sys.ibm.pc] How to access "stderr" in a language that doesn't support it?

Can anyone tell me how I could open the "stderr" file in a language that,
unlike C, does not open it for you?  I'm thinking specifically of Micro-
soft Fortran 4.01.  (No anti-Fortran jokes, please :-)
