Hello, I am considering buying a package that will allow me to remotely access and run DOS applications from a 386 over a modem. I have heard of two products in particular that permit graphics, colors, etc., that seem to work fairly well. This is to run over 2400 baud lines. For the applications in question, speed and choppiness of screen updates is neglegible (sp?). I have had the opportunity to work with Dymanic Microprocessor Associates pcANYWHERE. The package I saw demonstrated was dated 1987. I was very impressed. A sales rep at DMA told me today that the newest version now handled all graphics modes, and when running on a 386-AT, would allow three different users to call in and access the machine simultaneously, yet independent (so to speak) of each other. Sort of a networking environment. pcANYWHERE also allows the user to enter the system on terminals other than another PC running the same package (ie, Wyse 60, etc.). The other package I have been told about (I have not seen it run) is Carbon Copy Plus. Here is where I need some input. Does anyone out there have knowledge of either of these products (over and above mine :-) and especially how they compare (practically) and what are some advantages of one over the other? pcANYWHERE sells for $145 which includes "license" (?) for both a host and a remote unit. It is my understanding that Carbon Copy Plus (which sells for $195) needs a *different* package for each host, ie, a given copy will not talk with itself. DMA also claimed that pcANYWHERE was faster than Carbon Copy Plus...but again, they want to sell me pcANYWHERE. If anyone can provide further details on either and/or both of these packages, or any other packages that do the same thing, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Please email responses and I will summarize should it seem necessary. Thanks in advance! Mark. -- Mark J. Bailey "Ya'll com bak naw, ya hear!" DMA also claimed that pcANYWHER I use Carbon Copy all the time. I don't know about graphics, but it is a bit slow. It seems to take forever for it to 'disconnect'. When you run CCHELP (the calling program) you have to wait a long time while you stare at the copyright banner. It does work, but lots of times (with less than optimum modems) it thinks it's still dialing, after you hear the modems connect. Other times, you see 'Sending password to CC' for ever. (they never really get synced up). I'm looking for a package I can use with a terminal (or unix/cu) instead of having a companion program. In all, CC works, but is annoying sometimes... This thing is great! It does all graphics modes, has printing on both host and remote (including graphics!) has the ability to take calls from 30+ other terminals besides the supplied term program ATERM (which by the way comes with it - ie, you get the software for both the host and remote system unlike CC). The speed is very nice too. At 2400 baud, I enjoying satisfactory screen updates on color text, and reasonable screen updates on graphics screens, although I would want to run windows! :-) But, at any length, with the amount of features, and the ease of use, I highly recommend this package! Just wanted to share this with you. By the way, you can get more info on pcAnywhere by calling DMA at 212-687-7115. Note: I am not associated in any way with DMA other than I am satisfied with this product. Hope this helps. Mark. -- Mark J. Bailey "Ya'll com bak naw, ya hear!"
