I need two things, and I'd like to hear suggestions of what's available, and
recommendations for and against specific products, please.
(1) I need a sound output board for IBM PC. As cheap as possible, not to
exceed $250. I need to make a rifle shot sound, fairly loud. Sound
quality to be traded off against price, i.e. video-game quality is ok
if cheap; higher quality better if not much more expensive. The ideal
board will include a speaker, and be fairly loud. Something more versatile
than just sound effects would be better, again if no more expensive.
Is there such a thing as a $50 D/A converter for audio use? Eight or
twelve bits' precision would probably be enough for what I want.
(2) Less urgently, I'd like to find something like a light pen that can be used
at a distance from the screen, say 10 feet or so, as an aiming device
such as might be used for a video game shooting gallery.
If both of these could be had on one board, so much the better.
Please respond by email to frobozz@pyr.gatech.edu.
Thanks.
