So much for the amazing sound of three pieces.

This is a value judgment.  It is akin to saying that the only good
photographs are "straight" pictures of real things and that processed
photos using special photographic effects are not "good".  Using the
studio as an instrument is a vital part of much of today's truly
progressive music, and to denigrate it because "it wasn't performed live"
is to miss the point---the vinyl product (PUN!) does not necessarily have
to be a pure rendition of a live performance.  To say that it must be is the
same as saying that the only good photographs are portraits and landscapes.

Nash the Slash, formerly of FM, has been performing and recording as a
solo artist.  He, in fact, is known to use tape in performance, but he's
rather upfront about it (he's just one guy alone on stage with violin,
mandolin, keyboards, and tape).  I saw him open for Gary Numan in 1979/80.
Interesting show.  Nash the Slash is now on Ralph Records, with a new album
The Million Year Picnic.
