I have a Toshiba T1200 HB, this is a laptop with a 20Mb hard drive and a backlit super twist display. The hard disk can be powered down via a switch located on the rear panel. I noticed that when the drive is turned back on that it doesn't spin up imediately but waits until the first access is attempted. This means that the switch is soft and that software actually manages the drive motor. The display can also be turned off and on by software as happens when one selects the composit video output. It seems that is should be possible to write an application which could shut down both the display and drive based on the time since the last access. Does anybody know if such an application exists. Any help will be appreciated. Stephen Sackett Sackett@ionvax.tn.cornell.edu
