I have just been handed a Compaq computer. I believe it's a very old model with 2 360k disks and 512k memory. Under model number the label only says "compaq". I've been trying to get the monster working and have noted that some applications just lock this baby up and cycling power is the only fix. Some of the programs that lock it up are the common MACHINFO and PC-INFO programs, though a few commrecial programs like HP's Exec Memomaker also lock it up. Are there any firmware or pca upgrades I should know about (i'm trying to use msdos 3.3). The question is: Is this machine need updates, or is it just not really ibmpc compatible, or is it broken? I have the Sams book on the machine to assist me if service is in order though I have yet to find an address for COMPAQ. Anyone care to shed some light on this dinosaur for me?
