[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Speedstore , does it do RLL

rogers@orion.SRC.Honeywell.COM (Brynn Rogers) (08/02/89)

I have been using Speedstore with my 120 Meg Maxtor (XT-1140)
for quite some time and I am very happy with it.
But, I want better, faster, bigger just like anyone else.
Switching to a 1:1 interleave RLL vs my 1:2 MFM should give me
3x throughput and 180Meg.
I know that this drive will do RLL no problem, but looking through
the device tables that speedstore offers (in HARDPREP) I cannot find
anything that looks like RLL.

My question is simple, does anyone use speedstore with a RLL drive,
and if so, how did you set it up?

Right.

When you invoke HARDPREP, just add "/secs:26" to the end of the command
line, and it will format and test RLL.....

Works quite nicely. You WILL need to disable any on-board controller ROM(s)
if you are going to use Speedstor to handle the drive rather than any on-
board formatter which may be included on the controller.
