I'm having problems backing up up a directory. All but one file can be copied
to a backup disk, with the exception generating a system error:
drive c: file allocation table bad
message. The disk operates just fine in all other respects, but the message
worries me! I would really like to recover this data file. What recommen-
dations would the net make? Would Norton Utilities be of any help here?

Start by using "chkdsk /f". If it asks about recovering some files, say
yes. It will create the recovered files in the root directory. If one
of the FATs is messed up, then Norton's Advanced can be used to help fix
the offending area.
