[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Problems with FANSI-CONSOLE

spcecdt@ucscb.UCSC.EDU (Space Cadet) (08/03/89)

I got the most recent version of fansi-console off of simtel20.arpa
and tried to use it. All it does is wipe out my screen (rolling, random
patterns). It does this even when it is the only thing in my config.sys,
and when I have no TSRs installed. I have an EGA board/monitor. Has anyone
else had this problem? Is there any solution? Thanks.

Fansi-Console has, and needs, a LOT of command-line switches to set it
correctly for specific hardware. This means the overall machine, not
just the display adaptor. For example, the switch /H=1 specifies my
Zenith machine/BIOS (note that Fansi is replacing part of the BIOS, in
addition to supplying an ANSI device driver). My use of it involves 12
separate switches, some required for operation and some just turning on
options.

As of version 3.0, Fansi is pure commercial software. It comes with a
250-page User Manual, and an optional Technical Reference manual
that's just as fat. The shareware versions included a disk copy of the
User Manual, with listings of the switches. Try poring through that.

Hmmm... what kind of EGA card? Does it have extended modes, etc.? If you
are using a Paradise card, it's a good idea to stick PEGA EGA into your
autoexec to prevent the card from trying to flip into CGA mode (FANSI really
won't like it if it does).

Also, make sure the /Q flag is OFF (I think you can put /Q0 on the DEVICE=
line to force this).

Good luck.
