A few weeks ago, I posted a request for suggestions as to how to hook Toshiba T1100s and T3100s to an IBM Token Ring network. I guess this isn't something many people have tried to do, as only two folks had any suggestions. Anyway, here's what I've found for the benefit of those who will be trying to connect their laptops to a LAN in the near future. One suggestion was Toshiba's expansion chassis. It's a five-slot box, complete with fan and power supply, which hooks up to a card which you plug into the laptop's expansion port. Canadian list price is $925. I've tried this out and it seems to work. The other suggestion was that Toshiba had promised to have an IBM-compatible token-ring adapter for their laptops. Well, I phoned our local Toshiba office and was informed that due to a delay in receiving the chipset from TI, this card was not in production yet. It will be going to beta-test sometime in August and will likely be released as a finished product sometime in 4Q89. We (my department) are going to be one of about five Canadian beta-test sites for this card. Anyone who wants to hear how this goes, drop me a line and I'll send you a brief report at the end of August. (BTW, Toshiba has LAN cards for some other types of LANs. I believe they have an Arcnet card, for example.) Thanx to soley@moegate.UUCP and gp310ad@pyr.gatech.edu (you know who you are) for the above two suggestions. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- !
