[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Wanted: TCP software library for 3Com Ethernet card

richmond@astroplasma.berkeley.edu (Michael Richmond) (08/04/89)

     We have 3Com 3C501 Ethernet card in a PC which currently runs
on Decnet. We'd like to have it talk to TCP machines, but we need
the socket library for our card. Does anyone have, or know where we
can find, a socket library that will link to Microsoft C code?

     Thanks in advance,

              Michael

Our PC/TCP Developer's Kit has such a socket library (4.2-style, all
memory models supported), and our TSR kernel is available for the
3C501. Sun's PC/NFS also has a good socket library as an option (also
still 4.2, I think), and they support the 3C501 also.

Check out FTP Software.  stev@ftp.com is a possible inquiry address;
they also have been advertising in a variety of UNIX magazines and
even some MS-DOS oriented ones.

Their library is quite good, especially given MS-DOS limitations.
There was a review recently in PC Magazine. Interestingly, the
Editor's Choice was an IBM product even though it was slower and more
difficult to install than several others. FTP's product was highly
rated in the article, however. Big Blue's presence is everpresent.
