I have the need in a few months of changing a development environment from being based on Intel 186 processors to Intel 376 (386 Embedded). The code written for the 186 will need to be ported to this new environment. Most of this code is written in C but there are significant chunks in assembly. One goal is to take advantage of the architectural speed ups that the 376 architecture will allow. The code is being written for an embedded application and will need to be ROMable. Here are the pieces that I forsee needed. 1) Good C compiler with optimizations. 2) Assembler 3) Full Linker/Locator that allows building Romable images. 4) Full Symbolic/Source debugging. 5) Conversion utilities as needed for converting images if necessary and/or for converting to downloadable formats for burning roms. I'd like to hear from anyone who has thoughts on these topics, is working with such an environment now, or can make recommendations. thanks, -c cire|eric Eric B.
