[comp.sys.ibm.pc] An apology

tlhingan@unsvax.UUCP (Eugene Tramaglino) (04/12/88)

Some time ago, I (Eugene Tramaglino) posted a cautionary warning on the
NET about the FILETEST suite of programs posted on comp.sys.ibm.pc.
My resident installed copy of flushot3 printed a message to the screen
that FILETEST was attempting a write to COMMAND.COM.

After that, a follow-up was posted on the net by Larry Campbell, who
felt that my warning was a bit premature. I felt that Larry Campbell's
reply was a little harsh, and was shocked that someone would think that
any report of a write to COMMAND.COM could be posted prematurely. I then
posted a follow-up to Larry's message.

I would like to formally apologize to Larry Campbell, to my system
administators and fellow users, and to the USENET community in general.

To Larry, I apologize for pursuing a personal attack. While I disagree
with your arguments, I should never have steered this to a personal tack.
I do, however, still feel that my posting was justified; for the posting
I do not apologize.

To my system administrators and fellow users, I apologize for misrepre-
sentation. As a part of the University of Nevada, I must be seen as
speaking for them, despite any disclaimer I might post. Considering
the degree of helpfulness and co-operation shown to me by them, the
posting and misrepresentation are doubly grievous.

To the USENET community, I apologize for another poorly thought out
posting, and for the degree of immaturity shown by it. I am truly
sorry that readers of comp.sys.ibm.pc had to be sidetracked by what can
only be considered a waste of time and irrecoverable loss of personal
and professional resources.

If my way of life were different, I would spend time being embarrassed.
That would be senseless. I will devote that energy to ensuring that
my future postings (and my words everywhere) shall be direct and to-the-
point and without malice or attack.

Respectfully,

Eugene Leonard Tramaglino II

one thing, but I feel your original posting was appropriate.

It appears that the misunderstanding between Dzung Hoang and myself
was entirely (99% anyway) my fault. I missed his ad and got a copy
forwarded from one of my C students with the subject "TurboC for $45,"
and the text "You said you wanted a copy of this." The original ad was
attached.

I just mailed back to Mr Hoang without reading more than his address
out of the attached ad.

Thanks to the people who took the time to point this out to me.
