[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Exiting BOYAN w/o dropping line

wordproc@ucf-cs.UCF.EDU (wordproc) (08/07/89)

I'm using the Boyan Communicator 4.0 and would like to be able to exit the
program from time to time and remain connected to the other party.

Unfortunately, if I exit with <CTL-X>, Boyan 4.0 assumes I'm done for the
day and tells the modem to hang up.

How can I get around this?

One way around this is to hit ALT-J and leave Boyan running while you do
whatever else you want.

If that doesn't leave you enough spare RAM, use SWAP -d -f command
(that's literaly "command" so that you run another instance of
command.com) to recover the RAM that Boyan is using. Even though Boyan
has hooked interrupts, it still comes back running after the swap. I
use the original SWAP for that, since SWAP11 seems to be incompatible
with Boyan for some reason (maybe its hooked interrupts).

I finally got around to looking that up in the BOYAN 4.0 manual. It's
very simple. The default on exit (ALT-X, not CTL-X) is to drop DTR.
Option E on screen E of Configure BOYAN (ALT-C) can change this. I
just tried it: it works. (More people should use BOYAN 4.0 - no, I
don't profit from it, I'm just a happy user.)
