[comp.sys.ibm.pc] AT clone, only 2 com ports, NEAT chipset.

kevin@neptune.AMD.COM (Kevin Tomasek) (08/15/89)

My apologies to those who have seen this question before...

I have an AT clone that has a NEAT chipset and Phoenix bios.
The mode command from DOS 3.3 used to try and set the port speed for
the com ports indicates that there is an invalid parameter when com3 is
addressed. It works correctly for com1 and com2. If I'm not mistaken
DOS 3.3 supports four com ports.

I am assuming that the clone mama board has not been set up for four com
ports. If this is true has any one gone thruogh the excersize of trying
to
set up the extra com ports on a mama board like this one. I presently
have a multifunction board with 2 com ports com1 and com2 they both
work correctly. I am trying a friends internal modem which he is trying
to sell me. If I want to use it I have to remove the multi function
board since the com ports on it can not be disabled.

The hardware description include information for the com1/2 ports and
com3/4 is not mentioned anywhere. There do appear to be extra
i/ocontrol?? ports .

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, whether it is tough
luck buddy, to 'read so and so book'. If there was such a book I would
prefer to get it any way.

Thanks a bunch...

kevin
