[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Micropolis 1325 information?

fireplace@cup.portal.com (Ron van Zuylen) (08/15/89)

I need some information on the Micropolis 1325 (71 mbyte, 28 msec, ST-506)
hard disk. I don't need the capacity information. I need information on the
"jumper" plugs on the rear of the drive (I think). The controller (which
normally drives a Seagate ST251-0) does not "see" this drive. Hopefully, the
jumpers are just set incorrectly. I have a chance to pick up this drive for
a song. If it worked, it would be worth it. 8-) Any ideas would be
appreciated.

Yes, I attempted to deal with Micropolis; It was an experience I will not be
repeating in the near future.

Ron,

You're in luck!!! I, too, own a Micropolis 1325. It is a Type 29 drive
and should be jumpered as shown:

The set of six pins should have 2 and 4 jumpered.
The set of two pins should have 7 and 8 jumpered.

Good luck. It should work just fine.

Ron -

	I just installed a Micropolis 1650 drive in my souped-up 386AT. I
experienced the same problem you did , I think. I'm using a WD1008 ESDI
controller with it. It turns out that the C: cable (original AT) has a
twist in it that confuses the controller. I think if you remove the C:
cable and use the D: cable, it will work properly. Now, this leaves almost
a foot of cable dangling unused -- not recommended. If it works you could
cut the C: connector, or, better yet, get a new cable sans twist.

The 1650 is a 16ms, 160Meg, ESDI drive that runs at WARP 9. Cost
about $1.5K locally, but it can be bought mail-order for $1.3K.

I hope this works for you.

Hmmm...I have two 1325s and have never been able to get them to work
together as the drive 0 and 1 in an AT, although both work fine
independently as drive 0. Perhaps your jumper settings would solve
the problem.

Thanx,

I have the OEM manual for the 13xx series of drives form Micropolis. You can
probably get one for your self if you call them and ask nice ;-). However,
if you would like me to copy mine and send you a copy give me a call at home
some night (7:00 - 10:00 edt) at 412-367-7308.
