This digest has been severely degraded by child-like flames and content-free opinions. I'd be embarressed to show it to any serious musician. This is not a discussion of music, but rather a head-banging exercise. If these discussions were held live, they certainly wouldn't be at all enlightening and most likely intolerably boring. I personally don't read the net.classical discussions but "n"-ing through them is not nearly as annoying as "n"-ing over the seemingly endless volume of non-productive flames, which seem to be greater in number. I don't think there's any need to rule criticism out from these discussions. But if you're going to criticize, be adult about it and make sure there is content ("The reason I don't like it is because....") to add substance to your criticism. Typically there are two kinds of people that start flames: baiters and pouncers. Baiters are people who write things like "Let's have net.classical so I don't have to read through this rock trash." Things like that are either purposefully or subconsciencely intended to evoke a reaction. Baiters! Please avoid this. I recognize it sometimes makes you "feel good", but it wastes time and accomplishes nothing. Pouncers are people who typically flame back at baiters. They are the suckers the baiters depend on. Typical pouncer flame quotes a baiter and then often insults the baiters mother or worse. Pouncers! Please resist the temptation, the most annoying (and appropriate) thing that can happen to a baiter is to be ignored.
