[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Searching for 8514-compatible Adapter

kirchner@uklirb.UUCP (Reinhard Kirchner) (08/25/89)

Hello out there,

I am searching for a graphics adapter which is compatible to the
IBM 8514/A and which fits onto the standard AT-bus. Is there
any company who makes sucha thing ( Headland, Genoa, Tseng ? )

Please respond to this group ( others may by interested too )
or ( if possible ) to my bitnet-adress.

Thanks

R. Kirchner

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has one yet. But, *everyone* is
working on it. The trade press indicates Headland, (Video 7), Western
Digital (Paradise), Chips and Technologies, and others are busy on
chipsets that will emulate the IBM 8514/A at the register level. At
the moment, it looks like every is shooting for a fall Comdex showing.

There are several companies that plan (hope??) to announce such at Fall Comdex
for delivery before the end of the year. Those that have leaked hints (that
I am aware of) are Headland, Paradise/WDI, Genoa (I think, but I may be
wrong ;^), and STB (I do the leaking here...). Paradise or Headland will
probably release the first one, since they are also the chip developers, and
I have seen a demonstration of an "almost functional" Paradise card. So
they will become real soon (in the cosmic sense of time...).
