We have an application which is going to need something on the order of 12 to 14 I/O ports, probably all serial. In addition to this, we are going to need to have a modem also installed in the system for dial-up in order to transfer data. I've already found one card which contains 8 serial interfaces off a single IRQ. The question is: just how many COMx ports exist on most/all(?) PCs (IBM-compatible, of course)? My current impression is that most systems have the following I/O ports: COM1, COM2, LPT1, LPT2, and LPT3. Are there systems which also have a COM3 and COM4 and allow you to use all 4 COMx ports at the same time? On another subject, our company is looking for a VAR supplier as it appears our current supplier is in somewhat dire financial straits. Are there any recommendations out there? Please reply to me. If there are any requests for summaries, I'll post one. Thanks in advance. Warren -- Warren M. Iwamoto Manager, Software Development (817) 282-0096 work Telacast, Inc. (214) 340-2516 home Euless, TX
