[comp.sys.ibm.pc] need info on Colorado Memory Systems "Jumbo" tape drive

nuschrei@ndsuvax.UUCP (wes schreiner) (09/03/89)

Does anyone have any information, good or bad, about a
"Jumbo" mag tape drive by Colorado Memory Systems Inc.

This is a streaming tape drive, 40-120MB. I've seen it advertised for
around $280 from several mail order houses. Is it junk?

I've been using the Jumbo tape drive for a few months. I'm using it to back
up a Novell Network drive and it works really well (as long as you don't try
to install it in the server) The software included is excellent as well.
It can fit 40mb on regular tapes or 60mb with the new XL tapes. Using data
compression (which works well albeit more slowly) you can fit roughly 80mb
on regular tapes or 120mb on the XL tapes.
