According to the CBS Morning News, the world's most famous sled was sold at auction in New York for $55,000.00 (over $60,000.00 with commission) to Stephen Speilberg. Three copies were made for filming Citizen Kane, and only two were actually burned in the filming. The third prop was discovered a few years ago by some maintenance men who were cleaning out old props stored at RKO Pictures, and one of them rescued it from a trash pile.
