#R:mit-eddie:-159900:inmet:6600125:000:392 inmet!andrew Apr 18 16:45:00 1984 Don't forget "Monkey Spanner" by Dave and Ansell Collins (who did "Double Barrel" in 1971). "Red Red Wine" is an old Neil Diamond song which was a reggae hit for Tony Tribe. The line "the line broke, the monkey got choked..." is from an old nursery rhyme; it also appeared in Shirley Ellis' "The Clapping Song". Andrew W. How about 'Hey! Hey! We're the Monkeys!'. I don't remember the group, but it came out sometime in the 60's... <Sorry, I couldn't resist...> -- From under the bar at Callahan's: Chuq Von Rospach {amd70,fortune,hplabs,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui (408) 733-2600 x242 Never give your heart to a stranger, unless you are sure that you are dead.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned: "Everybody's got something to hide (except for me and my monkey)", By the Beatles, on the White Album... -- Alexander Burchell [agb@ucbarpa] [ucbvax!agb]

<> >How about 'Hey! Hey! We're the Monkeys!'. I don't remember the group, but >it came out sometime in the 60's... > ><Sorry, I couldn't resist...> Come on, Chuq - you mean you TRY not to remember the group (as do most of us that were listening back then!) Actually, the Monkees were way ahead of their time - in a sense, they were the forerunners of the "manufactured rock group" of today. You go out on the street and find the first four (or so) young people who might look good in a rock band. Everything from there on in is artificial - let the image- makers do hair, costumes, etc. Have someone find a gimmick - the more ludicrous, the better. Get flashy looking instruments and LOTS of amps and speakers. Hire a primo agency to book a tour and advertise an album. Huh? Music? All that and you want them to be able to play and sing??? --- ...Cerebus for dictator! Dick Dunn {hao, ucbvax, allegra}!nbires!rcd (303) 444-5710 x3086 -- ...Cerebus for dictator!
