[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Reading DOS 4 Serial Number

sac90286@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (09/26/89)

One of the new features of MS-DOS version 4 is the "serial number" assigned
to each disk. How does one access the serial number on a DOS4 disk? I'd
like to write a diskette cataloging program which makes use of the serial
number.

A thousand thank-yous in advance,

Simple solution, just boot with DOS 4.x and just 'dir' the disk you want
to see the version of. If there is no version number after the volume label
then it was not formated with DOS 4.x
