A couple of days ago, I read that my hard disk controller could handle a faster bus speed than I was using, so I decided to mess with the CMOS setup (the advanced option) to increase the bus speed. What I have done is another matter altogether! A machine that has worked flawlessly up until now doesn't seem to work properly no matter what I try to change in the setup. I am hoping that it is only a setup problem. The following is a description of my equipment: C&T chipset AMI BIOS version 1.50 4 meagbytes of 1 meg DRAMS (100nSecond) in bank 0/1 (bank 2/3 is unused) two cards in 16 bit slots (a Western Digital 1006V-SR2 hard/floppy controller, and an ATI VGA Wonder card) a 16MHz 30386 processor that WAS running at 20MHz with no problems two serial/one parallel/one game port The computer thinks it has only 256 or 640 K of memory (at different settings of a couple of options) and runs EXTREMELY slow (seemingly slower than a 8086). Before I messed with the setup, everything was as it should be. Is there anyone out there with a similar configuration who could send me an EXACT copy of their Advanced CMOS setup tables (the advanced setup option after their main advanced setup menu). Also, is there any way I could have damaged any HARDWARE in the process of fiddling with the setup? Many, many thanks in advance, and my undying gratitude to the person who can get me out of this jam! Rusty inet: jewett@mcnc.org P.S. If I have left out any relevant info, please let me know, and I will supply as much as I can. Oh, I've checked the motherboard manual, and it does not cover the advanced setup option.
