The molecule graphics during the Genesis briefing were obviously done at UCSF (the SF Chronicle recently ran one of these images on the cover of its Sunday magazine section, labelled as a PICTURE of a mouse gene (sic)). But, did you know that the following sequence, depicting a planet under the influence of Genesis, was entirely computer-generated. It was the work of another arm of Lucasfilm, the graphics group named in the credit.

The majority of the graphics and special effects were done at Industrial Light and Magic, Inc., of Marin (north of S.F.), CA. The LucasFilm-owned special effects group is considered to be the leading effects and computer-based film tecjnology group in existence... This summer alone, they are responsible for the effects in "ET", "Poltergeist", "The Wrath of Khan", and at least one other movie that I haven't yet seen. Peter
