In response to your message of Mon Jun 21 10:56:38 1982: There are two answers to this: 1) it is highly unlikely that the bagpipe music was part of the shooting soundtrack, rather than being recorded separately and dubbed in (I also suspect that Doohan doesn't know how to play the pipes, thus necessitating dubbing, but I wouldn't bet on it); 2) the holes on Scottish pipes are closed with the first or second joint (I think generally second) of the finger rather than the tip, making the motion much less visible unless you're at just the right angle.
