Greetings, netunits. I have a noise problem with the hard drive on my home system. First, let me describe my system, then the problem. I have: An 8Mhz AT clone motherboard, 1.5Mb RAM, 1.2Mb floppy, Tandon TM252 10Mb hard drive, AT controller, 2 RS232 ports, 3 parallel ports, Hercules adapter. All this is sitting on the dresser near my desk without any kind of box, other than a makeshift dust cover. I have a fan set up to direct heat away from the drives, through the boards on the motherboard, and out. All this junk (which works well) is powered by 2 62.5 watt PC compatible power supplies, one for the drives, and one for the system board. I got the TM252 from the salvage yard for $3. It works well, and is quiet most of the time. But, occasionally it blasts out a nasty loud buzz, then quiets back up. It buzzes less frequently as the system warms up, but will still intermittenty zap my concentration with an episode of loud buzzing. The noise sounds very similar to the buzz the drive makes when it spins up. Is it just that this drive is old, and things are wearing out? Can anything be done about this? Could the problem be that I am using 2 different power supplies? Or some other PS problem? Any help would be appreciated. Please e-mail me, and I will post helpful stuff for others who may have similar problems. Thanks -- 4rst %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% % Hello, 4rst!
