I just purchased a 3.5" disk drive for cheap. No controller came with it. The guy I bought it from said he had used it with a standard floppy controller card but that it would only format to 180k! This is a SHUGART VENTURE SA301 drive. Does anyone have any experiance with this drive? I would not mind getting a controller for it if that's what I need for a reasonable sized disk (at least 720k). It will be used in a XT clone. Thanks. Steve Look look@uicsrd.csrd.uiuc.edu

I had a similar question a few weeks before. Thanks to those who responded to my question. My experience (with my XT clone) is: I installed a Toshiba 720 KB internal floppy drive in the disk drive slot. Then I connected the cable from the floppy controller (which resides on my multifunction card, it can be used with up to two low density drives, 360KB or 720KB). And got a hold of DOS 3.3 (or higher), add one line device=d /1 in the config.sys file. It's done. If you have any question, I'd be glad to share more detail with you. Dingkai
