A friend of mine has a DOS 3.1 problem. She was backing up her hard disk using the DOS backup program with /m and /a to add modified files to the end of the previous backup, when backup aborted with the message: Unrecoverable file sharing error The PC in question isn't networked and doesn't run share.exe (perhaps it was once run by accident; several users use the PC, but most of them use a menu; share.exe isn't in autoexec.bat). The DOS manual has the following useful info for this error: MESSAGE: Unrecoverable file sharing error CAUSE: BACKUP, RESTORE ACTION: None Note that this is repeatable and she's unable to do a backup, although the disk seems to be okay otherwise. So, can anyone tell me: 1. The actual reason for this message, 2. What exactly share.exe is doing (does it modify files or directory entries on the disk somehow? She still can't run backup after rebooting), and 3. How to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!
