Hi ho. I was talking with a friend recently and I told him I was thinking of hooking up an 8" drive to my AT. He said that he thought he read something *somewhere* (some magazine or such) that told that you can use an 8" drive if you have a controller that will handle 1.44meg floppies. We discussed this somewhat and thought it sounded right. If memory serves... 8" drives run at twice the data rate of equivilent 5.25" drives. That is, a double-density 8" drive xfers data at twice the rate of a double-density 5.25" drive. Question: Do 1.44/1.2meg drives run at twice the data rate of 720k/360k drives? If so, then it should be feasible to hook up a DSDD 8" drive to a 1.44/1.2meg controller. Yes? No?? Only when the planets are aligned??? If possible, please send your replies to one of the addresses listed below; I don't get to read this newsgroup that often. If there's enough interest, I'll summarize. Thank you.
