[comp.sys.ibm.pc] 9-track Tape sytems

bb16@prism.gatech.EDU (BOSTATER,Scott) (10/17/89)

I'm looking for commments on 9-track 6250 bpi tape drives for a 386 clone.
My major concerns are transfer speeds, reliability, and software interface.
Cost is secondary, but I would like to keep it resonable. I have used
Cipher tape drives in the past but I'm interested if there's anything better
out now (We've had the drives for several years).

As far as software interface is concernd, I'ld like to be able to write/read
data from the tape in Pascal, C, and FORTRAN (oh noooo! Not the F word! :)
I'ld also like a canned program to backup a disk/directory/file but that's
not critical.

Please e-mail me since I'm not sure if this justifies taking up bandwidth.
I'll post a summary if there's enough interest.

Thanks in advance,

There are TONS of AT-bus 9-tracks. Look in the

back of PC Magazine, PC Week, or any
PC publication.
